Your Fort Myers crew

Our Fort Myers crew is based here and works from Cape Coral and Lehigh Acres to the islands, Naples, and Port Charlotte. Since Hurricane Ian, many homes here hold storm-damaged belongings alongside everything else, and sorting the two takes patience.

Every job starts with a conversation, then a walkthrough with you, then a written plan that says what we’ll do, in what order, and what it costs. On work days we sort with you. Papers, photos, and anything that might matter are set aside for you to see. Nothing is thrown away because it looks like clutter.

Local knowledge

What’s different about cleanup in Fort Myers

Lee County’s older population, the long shadow of Hurricane Ian, and a patchwork of city and county services all shape the work here.

  • Hurricane Ian is still part of many homes

Ian damaged more than 52,000 structures in Lee County in 2022, and storm surge reached 10 to 15 feet at Fort Myers Beach. Water-damaged contents, unpacked insurance boxes, and belongings moved in from damaged rooms are common. They need careful sorting, not just hauling.

  • Nearly three in ten Lee County residents are 65+

That’s well above the national share. Many calls come from adult children helping a parent stay safely at home, or preparing a home after a move into more care.

  • City or county decides the rules

Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Sanibel run their own trash collection and code enforcement. Lee County covers unincorporated areas like Lehigh Acres, plus Bonita Springs, Estero, and Fort Myers Beach for collection.

  • Code complaints aren’t anonymous

Lee County and Cape Coral generally can’t act on anonymous code complaints under Florida law. Complainants give a name and address, which becomes public record. If you’re a neighbor or relative who would rather help than report, a private call to us is another place to start.

Doing some yourself?

Local disposal rules, if you’re clearing some things yourself

If you’re starting on your own, these Lee County rules are worth knowing. Check the linked page before relying on one.

When we do the work, hauling and disposal are part of the plan. You don’t need to arrange any of this.

Questions

Questions from Fort Myers families

Which areas does the Fort Myers crew cover?

Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, North Fort Myers, Estero, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers Beach, and Sanibel, plus Naples, Port Charlotte, and Punta Gorda. Not listed? Ask, and we’ll tell you plainly whether we can help.

Can you sort through belongings that were damaged in Hurricane Ian?

Yes. Water-damaged paper, fabric, and drywall can hold mold, so they’re handled carefully, and Florida’s Department of Health recommends a professional for mold over about 10 square feet. Anything with value or meaning, including insurance paperwork, is set aside for you before anything leaves.

My parent lives in Cape Coral and I’m out of state. Where do I start?

Start with a call. We’ll listen, explain what a walkthrough involves, and talk about how you want to stay involved from a distance. For services that help your parent day to day, the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida (866-413-5337) is a good next call.

There are pool chemicals and old paint in the garage. What happens to them?

They’re kept separate and never mixed. Lee County residents can take them to the Topaz Court facility free of charge. Never pour them down a drain or put them in the trash.

Is there a hoarding task force in Lee County?

A Lee County hoarding task force was formed in 2010, bringing together animal services, code enforcement, mental health, fire, and police. We couldn’t confirm whether it’s still active. For an older adult, the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida (866-413-5337) is a good first call. If you’re worried about someone’s safety, call the Florida Abuse Hotline at 1-800-962-2873.
