Hoarder Cleanup Service

If this is your home

You can ask for help and still stay in charge

Here’s what stays in your hands, what you don’t need to do before you call, and plain answers to the worries that keep people from calling at all.

  • You don’t need to clean first
  • Nothing leaves without your yes
  • You choose who knows
  • You can stop at any time

Things you don’t need to do first

  • You don’t need to clean before anyone sees it. Please don’t wear yourself out trying. We need to see the home as it is anyway.
  • You don’t need to explain how it got this way. If you want to tell us, we’ll listen. If you don’t, that’s fine.
  • You don’t need a diagnosis, a plan, or a budget. Working those out is part of what the first conversation is for.
  • You don’t need to decide anything on the first call, including whether to call again.

What stays in your control

Your home, your belongings, and your pace. Specifically:

  • Which rooms we work in, and which we leave alone
  • What stays, what goes, and what waits for a later decision
  • Who knows about the project, and who is involved
  • How we contact you, and whether we can leave messages
  • Whether to stop, pause, or keep going, at any point

How you decide, item by item

Every item gets one of five answers, and only you (or someone you’ve authorized) gives them.

  1. Keep
  2. Hold
  3. Give
  4. Recycle
  5. Discard

“Not sure yet” is a real answer. It goes in Hold, and you come back to it later.

How Hold works

Where a yes has limits

We’d rather tell you now than surprise you later. A few situations work differently:

  • An executor, guardian, or agent with authority decides instead of the resident.
  • In an emergency we stop and call 911, and responders don’t need anyone’s yes.
  • A code notice, court order, or lease deadline can require changes by a set date.
  • Needles, waste, spoiled food, and some chemicals and medicines have their own rules.
  • A landlord’s appliances, someone else’s things, or estate items need their owner’s yes.
  • We may pause an area until pests, wiring, or a leak are dealt with.
Each one explained

What people worry about, answered plainly

“They’ll judge me.”
You won’t hear lectures or comments about how the home looks. We describe the work in practical terms, like clearing a path or making the kitchen usable, because that’s what it is.
“They’ll throw my things away.”
Nothing leaves without your yes. If you’re unsure about something, it goes in a labeled Hold box that stays with you (how Hold works). You can change your mind about anything still in the home.
“Someone will report me.”
We’re not inspectors, and we’re not there to judge or report on how a home looks. If someone’s life is in danger, we call 911. Some state laws require reports of suspected abuse or neglect of a child or a vulnerable adult, and we follow those laws. If this is a specific worry for you, ask us on the first call. You’ll get a straight answer.
“I can’t afford to fix all of it.”
You don’t have to do all of it. A project can be one room, or just the work that makes the home safe. Your written estimate lets you choose. See how estimates are worked out.
“Once it starts, I’ll be pushed to keep going.”
You can stop at any time, and you only pay for work that’s been done. Many people do one stage and come back months later, or never.
“The neighbors will see.”
We plan arrival times and parking to keep things low-key, sort inside, and don’t discuss your home with anyone you haven’t included.

A small way to start

  1. Step 1: Sort out your thoughts privately

The Where to Start planner asks a few questions and gives you a short list of next steps. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.
  2. Step 2: Read what the process looks like

How it works explains every stage before it happens, including what you decide at each one.
  3. Step 3: Reach out when it feels right

Call, or send a short question. You can ask us not to leave voicemails, and we won’t.

Questions people ask us

Can I talk to you without my family knowing?

Yes. We speak only with you unless you ask us to include someone. If a family member contacts us too, we won’t pass on what you’ve told us, or what they’ve told us. If you ask us directly whether someone has called, we won’t lie to you.

Can we start with just one room?

Yes. Often the kitchen, the bathroom, or the path to the door is the best place to begin.

What if I get upset during the work?

It happens, and it’s not a problem. We’ll pause. Sometimes a short break is enough; sometimes the day ends early. You set the pace.

Will you tell my landlord?

No. We talk only with the people you choose. If your landlord contacts us about your home, we won’t discuss your situation with them without your permission.
